Separate value from status

A cell should distinguish a quoted manufacturer value from an editorial measurement. Add a source column and a status such as stated, observed or unresolved. Without those fields, a polished table can make unequal evidence look equally certain.

Do not normalize away differences

Regional labels, revisions and components may use similar vocabulary with different scopes. Preserve those qualifications in the table. If units are converted, retain the original value and explain the conversion; do not create apparent precision that the source never supplied.

Keep the table maintainable

One row should represent one claim about one object. When a source changes, an editor can then revise that row and its note. This journal uses the same principle in its source library: compact records that can be corrected individually, rather than attractive but untraceable summaries.
