The Haramain Express Train management has announced the plan to offer free tickets to citizens for weekly trials ahead of its commercial launch.
Saudi Arabia’s first high-speed electric trains between Makkah and Madinah will launch its commercial operation by this September.
The first free tickets will be for journeys between Madinah and Makkah on June 1. They will be available to men and women aged over 18 without luggage.
The railway will be able to carry 60 million passengers a year by the time it is fully operational at the beginning of 2019, Al-Amoudi said.
The 450-kilometer mainline will travel through King Abdullah Economic City, with a short branch line to the new King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) in Jeddah.
It will be operated by 35 passenger cars on two-way trips between Makkah and Madinah.
